We proudly present our newest collaboration, Roots Studio x JuJuBe. Roots Studio connects brands to indigenous artists who create cultural art bringing deep meaning to each style. Featuring artists across South Asia, each design not only helps continue their heritage but also provides a sustainable source of income to their family and community.

Roots Studio bridges indigenous communities to the global market through respect, reciprocity, and remuneration. This collaboration highlights the authentic work of indigenous artists, while creating a sustainable source of income for their communities.

A collection designed with a purposeshop The Roots Studio x JuJuBe Collection.

Proceeds from this collection of heritage art directly benefit the artist and their community. Art with a conscience …

How does it work? From the profits provided, an estimated 20% go to the artist while 80% is put into a community fund, where the village prioritizes how it can best be used to benefit their people, such as a dividend for every participating artist.

About the Bhil Tribe:

The Bhil tribe is an ethnic group inhabiting the Western part of Central India. Well over 1.5 million Bhil’s live as marginal farmers in almost 2000 villages, yet many have also migrated into cities too. Members of the Bhil tribe possess a vast array of rich customs and traditions connected to their land and agrarian roots. Bhil people record history by decorating the walls and floors of their houses. Their distinctive “pointillist” art features multiple layers of symbolism. Inspired by kernels of maize – the Bhil’s staple crop – each group of dots often represent an ancestor, prayer, story, memory, or tradition. Each artist composes dots in distinctive patterns encoding their design with their unique signatures.

Wild Life with Jade lining by Ramila Bariya

In co-creation between Roots Studio and artist Ramila Bariya of the Bhil tribe, Wild Life features a distinctive style of painting that includes vibrant colors, artistic dots, and village life. The theme of friendship between birds and animals appears frequently in Bhil art. In Wild Life, Ramila beautifully renders dotted deer, peacocks, and other local birds intermingling to decorate the neutral taupe background. Seeds, leaves, feathers, and trees coexist harmoniously with the vivid yellows, greens, oranges, pinks, purples, and blues. Paired with soft jade lining and satin silver hardware, Wild Life boldly celebrates community and culture.

Tiny and cute.

I bought this bag for my daughter who is 18 months to use as a "back pack" because her big brothers tend to consume her.
She LOVES it. The print is classic and hopefully will prove to be a bit timeless. She can put her bits and bobs as she sees fit in her bag and soon we can start making her carry her own diaper and change of clothes. Not alot but just enough for a quick change if needed.
